I was actually quite surprised by what I came across in Ecclesiastes 9. These are from the Message translation, which is hit and miss. I love how these words describe how precarious life is, and how it’s to be savoured and full. We have opportunities placed before us, all of the time, and God let’s us decide. You want to save the orphans in Africa? Do it, don’t wait for a “sign.” You want to feed the hungry? Do it, don’t wait for funding. It’s crazy. And God is crazy, good and crazy and wild, and He wants us on this ride with Him. I’m learning that more and more on this journey. Just do it. Write that book, uproot your family and move to India to serve, start a ministry in your own city that reaches the marginalized, sell all your possessions and make an impact on those around you. Those dreams are there for a reason, and they are not to serve ourselves, are they?

This week I attended a labor and birth, and like always, it opens everything wide and amazes me. I went from the Children’s Hospital where Florence is, to a home and hospital across the water, where life was coming forth. Labor challenges: the ups and downs, the roller coaster, the unexpected. And then the release […]
We booked a fall mini session (can’t imagine what wonders could happen in a full session!) with our friend Lizzette Miller, owner of Smashed Photography. Autumn is my favourite time of year for anything—birthdays (mine), weddings (ours), colors, Thanksgiving (Canada’s), blue skies. Lizzette is brilliant behind the lens, and in front of it too! It takes a […]
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! Did you know there are songs of thanksgiving right smack dab in the book of Job? Job rejoices at the marvellous power and might and love of God in the midst…amazing stuff.
cardboard boxes that used to carry sterile water and formula. suction, food and a weird new seating device we are borrowing. it’s a giant bean bag that you can suck the air out of. problem is, it’s broken, so it turns flat in 5 minutes flat…it’s better than nothing! So much happens in a month, […]
